Stop Those Bullies!

As a part of the promotion for Warrior Kids: Not Just for Kicks I have been doing some free assemblies in my local Primary Schools with an anti-bullying theme. It has been fun seeing the reaction of the children when I have pre-arranged for one of the senior teachers to come out and bully me in front of the entire school. Depending on the teacher involved and the children present, it’s varied from total shock, to hysterical laughter, which in itself has presented the opportunity to talk about what it means to laugh along with a bully.
Some of the teachers have had far too much fun … especially with the verbal abuse! I have to say some of the lines will stick with me forever. A couple of my favourites:
“You’re a bit fat to be a martial artist, aren’t you, Pajama Boy!” (I was dressed in my taekwondo dobok at the time and having just lost 18lbs, I’d hardly describe myself as fat right now.)
“With that nose and those ears, I bet the RAF didn’t need to give you a plane. They probably just strapped a motor to your back, pointed your nose down the runway and let your ears carry you into the sky!”
It’s been a lot of fun so far and I can see I’m going to enjoy this current round of promotional events.
Any schools in the Northants area who would like a free school assembly with an anti-bullying theme, feel free to drop me a line. I will supply follow up worksheets on request. My only request is that you promote the Not Just for Kicks book to the children and allow them to place orders if they wish to.
