A Scribe of Authors?

by Mark Robson
September 6, 2008

What is the collective noun for a group of authors anyway? I have no idea. What a collection we had in Witney today, though! Here’s a great picture of me with Sarah Singleton (one of my current heroines of teenage fiction - more on that shortly in another post) and MG Harris, author of exciting new series The Joshua Files.

As if three authors in one store at one time were not enough, the numbers kept growing. MG kindly sent me this photo as I had forgotten my camera (shame on me!). Sadly I don’t have photos of the others: Julia Golding, Mary Hoffman and Rhiannon Lassiter, who also featured during a busy day in the tiny Waterstones store in Witney, Oxfordshire. I might manage to add photos later. I had a wonderful time chatting with the other authors (and sneakily selling books to customers when they weren’t looking!) and occasionally with the staff who were looking a bit worn out at the end of their first local Book Festival, but looked after us well.

Edit: Here’s another photo:

I also had the pleasure of giving a talk in the Corn Exchange in the afternoon to a most receptive audience, and walked away at the end of the day with copies of Mary Hoffman’s new book City of Secrets, M.G.’s first Joshua Files book, The Invisible City, and some others which will have to remain unnamed, as they’re for my daughter’s birthday! I shall be launching a barrage of book reviews shortly, as I’ve been very remiss about reporting my reading this year and have lots of great recent reads to tell you about.

  2. sounds like it was a great day. Sorry I missed it, inconvenient of me to plan my wedding on the same day, I know. But at least I’m catching up on a few books on the beach in Mexico. I hope you can visit our little town again soon.

  3. Thanks Ed and Darrell. I’m sure I’ll be back, Darrell … I left my umbrella in Waterstones, so I’ll be back for that if nothing else!
