The Key

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while now, as it’s been a couple of weeks since I attended my second ever launch party - this time for a book that I did have a hand in … along with lots of very talented young people from Milton Keynes. If you have read previous blog entries, you may remember The Fastest Story in Milton Keynes. This was an amazing event organised by three school librarians, who wanted to create a book in a day as a joint venture between their respective schools - Hazeley School, Radcliffe School and Oakgrove School. The story they wrote was called ‘The Key’ … and this is the result.
Two different cover versions of the same book were launched at Hazeley School. The pupils involved in the event, along with parents, the librarians and the Hazeley Headmaster all came along to celebrate the success of the event. There was cake! And what a cake!!
I do love a nice cake, but this was just a bit special as you can see. I’ve never been one for having launch parties for my own work … much to the disappointment of family and friends, I think. That said, it was great to see the young people so excited about producing something that they can treasure forever. To see your name in print is exciting. I get excited each time a new book launches. There is something very special about seeing something you have created becoming available for everyone to enjoy. What with this launch party and the Glitterwings one, it’s got me all excited about my own imminent launch. Firestorm is just over a week away now and my first signing event is on Saturday in Daventry. I can’t wait!
