Dusting off the old Wings …
by Mark Robson

Not my RAF wings. In fact the wings I dusted off were not old at all, but were purchased in a fancy dress shop in Uxbridge for a launch party. Those who have followed my progress as a writer may have noticed that I’ve never had a launch party for any of my books. This is not an accident. To be honest, I’ve never been convinced of the cost effectiveness of such an event, but of course I was more than prepared to enjoy someone elses extravagance - even if it did mean donning fairy wings for the evening! I decided that if I had to wear wings, I would be the evil fairy for the evening, so I added horns for effect!
I’ve made some most interesting friends amongst my fellow authors. Authors of books for children seem to be predominantly female, charming and softly spoken. This party was for one of nicest people I’ve met. Lee Weatherly (aka Titania Woods - with me in the picture above) has written a delightful new series of fairy books - apparently there can never be enough fairy books for little girls! The Glitterwings Academy series has certainly caught my daughter’s imagination. I read the first one with her and I must admit it was a fun story - really sweet - the sort of thing that I can imagine appealing to vast hordes of would-be little fairies. I had to read dozens of the Daisy Meadows ones when she was younger, so it was nice to have something with a bit more substance to the story.
When going to launch parties you tend to meet a whole host of interesting people, as you can see from the photo. My question is: where were all the other male authors? Not up for an evening of ‘embracing their inner fairy’, I suppose. Fairy nuff!

That looks fun! You don’t look very evil for an evil fairy… are you dressed up as Shalidar’s secret persona - evil fairy? lol
