Signing here, signing there …

Had fun in Guildford Waterstones on Saturday, signing with Sam Enthoven, pictured left. We had such a good time that we thought we might do it again sometime soon … maybe in the summer holidays. More on that soon. Sam is a fine chap who tells a fine tale. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying my read through The Black Tattoo. It’s a tale of secret societies, demons, high-flying kung fu, vomiting bats and gruesome battles between fearsome monsters. Indeed, battling monsters seem to be a feature of Sam’s writing, as his new book, Tim: Defender of the Earth appears to be a tribute to the great monster stories that litter our literary history - King Kong, Godzilla etc. Tim is a 12 year old Tyrannosaur with attitude! He’s been created in secret, deep beneath London, as part of an experimental programme. Unfortunately he’s also expensive - so expensive that the British Government decide to scrap the project in favour of something else. Tim (Tyrannosaur Improved Model) has other ideas. Like an idiot I left in a hurry to try to catch the first in the new Dr Who series and I forgot to ask Sam to sign me a copy of Tim - an error I intend to correct very shortly.
My next signing event is on the first Saturday of May in Cheltenham WH Smith store - a frequent haunt for me, it seems. I look forwards to catching up with some regulars there.
I’m currently going through the first edit of Dragon Orb - Shadow. Mercifully, my Editor likes the story and has only suggested superficial changes that are fairly easy to implement. I should be sending the corrected manuscript back by the middle of the week. Hurrah! Longfang next …

Hi Mark
SO pleased for you it’s all happening these days: do you still make the occasional appearance in your flying gear? Wanted to give you a nod about my friends at Wood Green’s Big Green Bookshop, who are ‘doing’ you with their brand new reading group for young people. They do a good (and famous) blog, and a nice cup of coffee if you’ve time to pop up there and join them on the day. Wave the flag for independents, perhaps.
Big hug anyway, and here’s to continuing success - glad I was there to see the start.
cheers!

Hi Trish,
Thanks for your message. I spoke with the Big Green Bookshop today and have agreed to go and spend a day in the store later in the year. Unfortunately I can’t go down there at the moment as my programme is just totally frantic, so I’ll miss the chance to get involved with them ‘doing’ Imperial Spy. A shame, but I’ve already written one book this year … and have two more to finish before Christmas if I’m to stay on deadline! Also I have about 100 days booked in schools and stores already this year. I’m not getting a lot of sleep!
It’s all great fun, though. Having a ball. Where are you now?
Mark
