Launch Day

Well, the big day is here. Imperial Traitor is officially out there and the trilogy is finished. Dragon Orb is now the ongoing project. It seems strange after the long haul of producing the series to be sort of washing my hands of it, but the next project is so advanced now that it seems strange in some ways to still be talking about Imperial books.
The picture above is of me today - uploaded from the webcam at BBC Radio Northampton, where I gave a live interview this morning. (I am the blur on the left of the picture - aren’t I handsome?!) Bernie was great. I was amazed at how long we were on air for. I kept thinking ‘He’ll switch to a record now. He’ll switch to a record now. But he didn’t. The interview was over a quarter of an hour straight, with lots of opportunity for plugs, which was fantastic. Let’s hope lots of people heard it and are rushing out to buy all the Imperial books as I write.
I spent the rest of the day preparing all the admin for the next 4 months of promotional chaos. I’ve been producing checklists, packing posters, signing stock for wholesalers and no end of other trivia. It’s been a busy day, but I’m now sat at the computer with the tail end of a bottle of Chateux Neuf in the glass in front of me feeling very pleased with myself. It’s been a good day. I shall post my ‘Where I work - Part 2 shortly.’

Hi, I am from King’s College Junior school in Wimbledon. Your recent visit in October 2007 inspired me to read the Imperial trilogy. The books were fantanstic, especially how you built such tense moods and a thrilling structure of each book. I would like to congratulate you on thinking to start ‘Dragon Orb’ but I do not understand why you would not to choose to write more Imperial books as ‘Imperial Traitor’ still ends with four assasins escaping from the destruction of the Guild. But I still thank you for writing these fantastic books and I hope you at least think about the suggestion I gave you as I will thouroughly enjoy reading more of your books.

Hello, Min-Hyuk Seo, and thanks for your comments about the Imperial books. I’m glad that you’ve enjoyed them so much. It is true that I’ve left some deliberate openings at the end of Imperial Traitor. I may wish to return to the story some day and write more books, but for now I’d like to turn to something different. I think the danger with series fiction is to write so many books that the story goes stale. At least this way, if I do decide to come back and write more Imperial books, I’ll attack it with a fresh mind for spy stories.
I’m looking forwards to coming back to your school in September, so maybe we can discuss this further then. Happy New Year!
Mark
