SAS Training
by Mark Robson
July 28, 2007
I have just come back from Charney Manor in Oxfordshire where I’ve enjoyed 4 days with a diverse group of authors who belong to the alternative SAS - the Scattered Authors Society. It was a fascinating time, though all conversations and training should, of course, remain Top Secret. We wouldn’t want the Publishers to get wind of what we were up to!
As a result of the residential hideaway, I’ve agreed to do some events with some other authors during the autumn. Dates have not been confirmed yet, but I hope to sign books with Joanna Kenrick, Meg Harper and possibly Sue Purkiss, author of The Willow Man. I had a great time with the 25 other authors and learned so much about my chosen life as an author that I’m not sure if I should be scared or thrilled with the prospect of the adventure ahead. One thing’s for sure - I came away a lot wiser.
Charney Manor was a wonderful venue for the event. Good accommodation, fabulous countryside (even if much of it was under water!) and lots and lots of great food! I’ve come back totally refreshed and eager to get back to my writing with a vengeance. I shall be writing flat out over the next month and a half, with the goal of re-writing the first of the Dragon Orb series, and getting well stuck in to the draft of the second. I’ll be keeping you updated with all the latest on the Dragon Orb books as I progress.
One piece of news in is that the cover artist has been decided. Although I will be sad not to have Geoff Taylor on board for the next series, the team at Simon & Schuster have made a fine choice in David Wyatt. You can see some of his previous work here: David Wyatt artwork.
