The Kids’ Lit Quiz World Final - Part 2

The great thing about events like this is that I get to meet up with lots of fellow authors. The above were all familiar faces to me, as I’d met them at events in the past. From left to right: Sophie McKenzie, author of ‘Girl Missing and Running for her Life’, (a fantastic YA thriller) Caroline Lawrence, author of the very popular Roman Mysteries, Robert Muchamore, author of the Cherub series, and yours truly (the poor relation!).
Maybe I’m just sad, but I still get pleasure from getting books signed when I get the chance. I’ve been eyeing up ‘Endymion Spring’ in the book shops for some time now, so when I found myself sitting at the signing table next to Matthew Skelton, I gave in to my urge for acquisition and gently twisted his arm …
Matthew is incredibly self-effacing considering he’s written such a fantastically popular book. I’m looking forward to reading it very much. There was an amazing list of authors present at the quiz: Linda Newbery, Julia Jarman, Elizabeth Laird, Meg Harper, Diana Hofmeyer, Chris Higgins … the list went on and on. Top of it, however, was Phillip Pullman - a veritable icon amongst authors for children. You can see a picture of me rubbing shoulders with him on the News page of my main website.
For schools not involved in the Kids’ Lit Quiz I have a short message - get involved! It’s a fantastic event for young people. Ask your local Schools Librarian Service rep. for details.
