Hurrah! It’s finished!

Yes, Dragon Orb – Book 1 is now complete.  I placed the full stop after the final sentence at two minutes past midnight last night … and then went straight back to page one and started editing!  It will take me a little while before I’m happy with it, but it feels great to have completed the first stage of the writing process, as the first draft is always the hardest.

For those who have always enjoyed tales of dragons and dragonriders, I’m hoping you will find this something of a treat.  There are four main dragon types featured in the story, each with fascinating abilities.  We have day dragons – proud and noble, night dragons – dark and terrifying, dusk dragons – grey and mysterious, and, of course, dawn dragons – golden and resplendent.  Perhaps the most interesting of the dragons is the dawn dragon, Ryshell, as she has the ability to open a very special gateway – a gateway between worlds.  The gateway she opens leads the dragons to our world – France, 1916 – right smack in the middle of World War I.  I’m not willing to give away the storyline, as I’d hate to ruin it for you, but the real world thread of this story has been fascinating to research and will develop along what I hope will be surprising lines as the series progresses.  Suffice it to say that I don’t really mess with history … I just supplement it a little!

After messing with several different potential titles, the book feels as if it should be called ‘Dragon Oracle’, which is what I shall propose to the publisher.  It remains to be seen whether they will go with my suggestion, or come up with some alternatives.  I hope to have news as to who will be producing the cover art in the near future, along with lots of other snippets of information about the other books as they develop.

  5. Thanks for all your comments. It will take a considerable amount of work before it’s ready to go to print, but I’m pleased with the storyline. I feel sure from having read it back through that it will be well received. I’ll be sure to keep you all up to date on how everything is progressing.

  9. Thanks, Matthew, Kirsten and Sam.

Kirsten, I’m not planned to come to Swindon this year at the moment, but I will be in Witney on 8th September, which is not so far away. Take a look at the News page of my website for more detail.

Sam – I’ve been signing Imperial Traitor in Oxford today, so it’s out there in the shops now. If you take a look in your local Waterstones, you’ll probably see it. :-)
