World Book Day

I think I’m sufficiently recovered from last week to write a quick post about the World Book Day celebrations last week. I’ll be honest, I loved it. During the week I spoke to more than a thousand young people in various schools and libraries, which left me feeling pretty exhausted by the Friday. I actually crashed out for about 3 hours in the afternoon, which is not like me at all. I think all the high energy, high emotion speaking took more out of me than I imagined.
What I particularly enjoyed about the week was the way in which the teachers and pupils all got involved in literature by dressing up, producing artwork and reading their favourite books. It brought the week to life in a very special way. I’ll not post pictures of the youngsters until I have it cleared by the school, but this one of me with the English Staff from Kineton School in Warwickshire demonstrates something of the spirit of the week.
I loved the quidditch team outfits! Doctor Jekyll was pretty good too - it seemed fitting somehow for an English teacher! The following was a cover that one of the young people had painted as an alternative design for one of my titles, so I feel somewhat obliged to show it here. I hope to get more images soon - I didn’t have my camera with me, so I’m relying on the kind people from the school to send me the pictures.
